Schema therapy for children, adolescents and parents (ST-CA)

Therapeutic principles & special techniques

(Relevant for adults patients as well)

The Schema Therapy Center (Raanana, Israel) is proud to host Dr. Christof Loose, one of the leading developers of schema therapy for children, adolescents, and parents (ST-CA).

ST-CA helps the young client to reveal and process self-states (modes) activated in interpersonal interactions and empowers the 'wise side' to handle situations adaptively, by implementing emotion-focus, cognitive and behavioral interventions. ST-CA, an integrative approach based on CBT, object relations, and gestalt, offers comprehensive and effective treatment addressing various psychopathologies according to the clients' developmental stage. Special module is devoted to work with parents. This module enables processing past internalizations responsible for schemas and mode clashes in the parents' arena, as well as between parents and their child.

In this one-day workshop, Dr. Loose will present several central ST-CA interventions:

-       Pictorial representation and case conceptualization of schemas and modes, including psycho-education for  children and adolescents

-       Mode and schema work with the 3 dimensions of the "Inner House", an adapted technique for imagery re-scripting work (for children older than 10 years)

-       Schema genogram, mode clashes, schema collusions, and other interventions with parents (e.g., the compelling concept of “Limited Grandparenting”)

Dr. Loose will use video-taped segments and live role-plays to help workshop participants encounter the therapeutic principles and some of the central techniques in schema therapy for children, adolescents, and parents.

Bio: Christof Loose, PhD., works at the Institute of Experimental Psychology, Department of Clinical Psychology, and in his own Private Practice in Dusseldorf, Germany.
